Introduction to Fluid Mechanics Fox

fox and mcdonald’s introduction to fluid mechanics

Fox and McDonald provide a balanced and comprehensive approach to fluid mechanics that arms readers with proven problem-solving methodology! The authors show how to develop an orderly plan to solve problems: starting from basic equations, then clearly stating assumptions, and finally, relating results to expected physical behavior. This new edition simplifies many of the steps involved in analysis by using the computer application Excel. Over 100 detailed example problems illustrate important fluid mechanics concepts: approximately 1300 end-of-chapter problems are arranged by difficulty level and include many problems that are designed to be solved using Excel. The CD for the book includes: a brief review of Microsoft Excel and numerous Excel files for the example problems and for use in solving problems. The new edition includes an expanded discussion of pipe networks, and a new section on oblique shocks and expansion waves.

Book Description:

Fluid mechanics is often seen as the most difficult core subject encountered by engineering students. The problem stems from the necessity to visualise complex flow patterns and fluid behaviour modelled by high level mathematics. This text overcomes this difficulty by introducing the concepts through everyday examples, before moving on to the more involved mathematics. The various theories of flow have been correlated with real phenomena and, combined with numerous figures and photographs, help the reader place the subject in context. Examples from a broad range of engineering disciplines are included making this textbook suitable for all engineers studying fluid systems as part of their degree.

‘Introduction to Fluid Mechanics’ is translated from the best-selling Japanese book by Professor Yasuki Nakayama, and adapted for the international market by Professor Robert Boucher.

Introduces the concepts through everyday examples before moving on to the more invoved mathematics.
Various theories of flow are applied to real phenomena and illustrated with numerous figures and photographs
Includes examples from a bread range of engineering disciplines.

Book Description:

Fluid Mechanics book by the authors Pijush K. Kundu, and Ira M. Cohen, gives understanding and applying the principles of how motions and forces act upon fluids such as gases and liquids, is introduced and comprehensively covered in this widely adopted book. This book expanded coverage of important topics as surface boundary interfaces, improved discussions of such physical and mathematical laws as the Law of Biot and Savart and the Euler Momentum Integral. A critical new section on Computational Fluid Dynamics has been added to this edition for the very first time. Expanded and improved end-of-chapter problems will facilitate the teaching experience for students and instructors alike. This fluid mechanics eBook remains one of the most comprehensive and useful texts on fluid mechanics available today, with applications going from engineering to geophysics and beyond to biology and general science.

Significant, helpful end-of-chapter problems.

Excellent Coverage of Computational Fluid Dynamics.

Coverage of Turbulent Flows.

Solutions Manual is available.

The classic textbook on fluid mechanics is revised and updated by Dr. David Dowling to illustrate this important subject for modern students better. With topics and concepts presented in a clear and accessible way, Fluid Mechanics guides students from the fundamentals to the analysis and application of fluid mechanics, including compressible flow and such diverse applications as aerodynamics and geophysical fluid mechanics. Its broad and deep coverage is ideal for both a first or second course in fluid dynamics at the graduate or advanced undergraduate level and is well-suited to the needs of modern scientists, engineers, mathematicians, and others seeking fluid mechanics knowledge.

NEW TO THE SIXTH EDITION

Over 100 new examples are designed to illustrate the application of the various concepts and equations featured in the text.
A completely new chapter on computational fluid dynamics (CFD) authored by Prof. Gretar Tryggvason of the University of Notre Dame. This new CFD chapter includes sample MatlabTM codes and 20 exercises.
New material on elementary kinetic theory, non-Newtonian constitutive relationships, internal and external rough-wall turbulent flows, Reynolds-stress closure models, acoustic source terms, and unsteady one-dimensional gas dynamics.
Plus 110 new exercises and nearly 100 new figures.

Fluid mechanics, the study of how fluids behave and interact under various forces and in various applied situations-whether in the liquid or gaseous state or both-is introduced and comprehensively covered in this widely adopted text. Revised and updated by Dr. David Dowling, Fluid Mechanics, Fifth Edition is suitable for both a first or second course in fluid mechanics at the graduate or advanced undergraduate level. The leading advanced general text on fluid mechanics, Fluid Mechanics, 5e, includes a free copy of the DVD “Multimedia Fluid Mechanics,” second edition. With the inclusion of the DVD, students can gain additional insight into fluid flows through nearly 1,000 fluids video clips, can conduct flow simulations in any of more than 20 virtual labs and simulations, and can view dozens of other new interactive demonstrations and animations, thereby enhancing their fluid mechanic’s learning experience. Book Description:

This new text, intended for the senior undergraduate finite element course in mechanical, civil and aerospace engineering departments, gives students a solid, practical understanding of the principles of the finite element method within a variety of engineering applications. Hutton discusses basic theory of the finite element method while avoiding variational calculus, instead focusing upon the engineering mechanics and mathematical background that may be expected of senior engineering students. The text relies upon basic equilibrium principles, introduction of the principle of minimum potential energy, and the Galerkin finite element method, which readily allows application of finite element analysis to nonstructural problems. The text is software-independent, making it flexible enough for use in a wide variety of programs, and offers a good selection of homework problems and examples.

Finite element Method in Engineering by Singiresu S. Rao

The objective of this book is to introduce the various aspects of finite element method as applied to engineering problems in a systematic manner. It is attempted to give details of development of each of the techniques and ideas from basic principles. New concepts are
illustrated with simple examples wherever possible. Several Fortran computer programs are given with example applications to serve the following purposes

– to enable the student to understand the computer implementation of the theory
developed;
– to solve specific problems;
– to indicate procedure for the development of computer programs for solving any
other problem in the same area.

Finite Element Analysis is an analytical engineering tool developed in the 1960’s by the Aerospace and nuclear power industries to find usable, approximate solutions to problems with many complex variables. It is an extension of derivative and integral calculus, and uses very large matrix arrays and mesh diagrams to calculate stress points, movement of loads and forces, and other basic physical behaviors. Students will find in this textbook a thorough grounding of the mathematical principles underlying the popular, analytical methods for setting up a finite element solution based on those mathematical equations. It quickly bridges that knowledge to a host of real-world applications–from structural design, to problems in fluid mechanics and thermodynamics. Professional engineers will benefit from the introduction to the many useful applications of finite element analysis, and will gain a better understanding of its limitations and special uses. New to this edition:?· New sections added on the assemblage of element equations, and an important new comparison between finite element analysis and other analytical methods.showing advantages and disadvantages of each?· Updated solutions manual available ?· Improved sample and end-of-chapter problems * The only book to provide a broadoverview of the underlying principles of finite element analysis and where it fits into the larger context of other mathematically based engineering analytical tools.* New sections added on the assemblage of element equations, and an important new comparison between finite element analysis and other analytical methods, showing the advantages and disadvantages of each.* New Companion website that will host usable finite element programs and sample engineering problems, as well as a Solutions Manual for end-of-chapter problems.
