Small Unmanned Fixed-Wing Aircraft Design pdf

Description:

Small Unmanned Fixed-wing Aircraft Design is essential to designing, building, and testing fixed-wing UAVs (or drones). It deals with aircraft from two to 150 kg in weight and is based on the first-hand experiences of the world-renowned UAV team at the UK’s University of Southampton.

The book covers both the practical aspects of designing, manufacturing, and flight testing and outlines the essential calculations needed to underpin successful designs. It describes the entire process of UAV design from requirements definition to configuration layout and sizing, through preliminary design and analysis using simple panel codes and spreadsheets to full CFD and FEA models and on to detailed design with parametric CAD tools. Its focus is on modest cost approaches that draw heavily on the latest digital design and manufacturing methods, including a strong emphasis on utilizing off-the-shelf components, low-cost analysis, automated geometry modeling, and 3D printing.
It deliberately avoids a deep theoretical coverage of aerodynamics or structural mechanics rather it provides a design team with sufficient insights and guidance to get the essentials undertaken more pragmatically. The book contains many all-color illustrations of the dozens of aircraft the authors and their students built over the last ten years, giving detailed information on what works best. It is predominantly aimed at undergraduate and MSc students who design and build projects. Still, it will interest anyone in the practical problems of getting quite complex unmanned aircraft flying. It should also appeal to the more sophisticated aero-modeler and those engaged in research-based around fixed-wing UAVs.

Vector Mechanics for Engineers: Statics and Dynamics pdf

Book Description:

A primary objective in a first course in mechanics is to help develop a student’s ability first to analyze problems in a simple and logical manner and then to apply basic principles to their solutions. A solid conceptual understanding of these basic mechanics principles is essential for successfully solving mechanics problems. This edition of Vector Mechanics for Engineers will help instructors achieve these goals. Continuing in the spirit of its successful previous editions, this edition provides conceptually accurate and thorough coverage and a significant refreshment of the exercise sets and online delivery of homework problems to your students. This edition has undergone a complete rewrite to modernize and streamline the language through the text. Over 650 of the homework problems in the text are new or revised. One of the characteristics of the approach used in this book is that the mechanics of particles is separated from the mechanics of rigid bodies. This approach makes it possible to consider simple, practical applications at an early stage and to postpone the introduction of more complex concepts.

Springer Handbook of Mechanical Engineering pdf

Book Description :

Encyclopedias describe Mechanical Engineering as a professional engineering discipline that involves the application of principles of physics for the analysis, design, manufacturing, and maintenance of mechanical systems. It requires a solid understanding of key concepts including mechanics, kinematics, thermodynamics and energy. Mechanical engineers use these principles and others for example in the design and analysis of automobiles, aircrafts, heating and cooling systems, industrial equipment and machinery. In addition to these main areas, specialized fields are offered at universities to prepare future engineers for their position in industry, such as: mechatronics and robotics, transportation and logistics, cryogenics, fuel technology, automotive engineering, biomechanics, vibration, optics and others.Accordingly, the Springer Handbook of Mechanical Engineering devotes its contents to these areas of interest for the practicing engineer as well as for the student at various levels and educational institutions.Authors from all over the world have contributed with their expertise and support the globally working engineer in finding a solution for today’s mechanical engineering problems.

Aeroacoustics of Low Mach Number Flows pdf

Book Description:

Aeroacoustics of Low Mach Number Flows: Fundamentals, Analysis, and Measurement provide a comprehensive treatment of sound radiation from subsonic flow over moving surfaces, the most widespread cause of flow noise in engineering systems. This includes fan, rotor, wind turbine, boundary layer, and aircraft noise.

Beginning with fluid dynamics, the fundamental equations of aeroacoustics are derived and the key solution methods are explained, focusing on the necessary mathematics and physics. Fundamentals of turbulence and turbulent flows, experimental methods and numerous applications are also covered.

The book is an ideal source of information on aeroacoustics for researchers and graduate students in engineering, physics, or applied math and engineers working in this field.

Mechanical Engineering for Makers: A Hands-on Guide to Designing and Making Physical Things

Mechanical Engineering for Makers: A Hands-on Guide to Designing and Making Physical Things pdf

Book Description:

This practical, user-friendly reference book of common mechanical engineering concepts is geared toward makers who don’t have (or want) an engineering degree but need to know the essentials of basic mechanical elements to accomplish their personal projects successfully. The book provides practical mechanical engineering information (supplemented with the applicable math, science, physics, and engineering theory) without being boring like a typical textbook. Most chapters contain at least one hands-on, fully illustrated, step-by-step project to demonstrate the discussed topic and require only common, inexpensive, easily sourced materials and tools. Some projects also provide alternative materials and tools, and processes to align with the reader’s individual preferences, skills, tools, and materials at hand. Linked together via the authors’ overarching project — building a kid-sized tank — the chapters describe the thinking behind each mechanism and then expand the discussions to similar mechanical concepts in other applications. Written with humor, irreverence, and entertaining personal insights and first-hand experiences, the book presents complex concepts uncomplicatedly.

Highlights include:

– Provides mechanical engineering information that includes math, science, physics and engineering theory without being a textbook
– Contains hands-on projects in each chapter that require common, inexpensive, easily sourced materials and tools
– All hands-on projects are fully illustrated with step-by-step instructions
– Some hands-on projects provide alternative materials and tools/processes to align with the reader’s individual preferences, skills, tools, and materials-at-hand
– Includes real-world insights from the authors, like tips and tricks (“Staying on Track”) and fail moments (“Lost Track!”)
– Many chapters contain a section (“Tracking Further”) that dives deeper into the chapter subject for those readers that are interested in more details of the topic
– Builds on two related Make: projects to link and illustrate all the chapter topics and bring individual concepts together into one system
– Furnishes an accompanying website that offers further information, illustrations, projects, discussion boards, videos, animations, patterns, drawings, etc.

Learn to effectively use professional mechanical engineering principles in your projects without having to graduate from engineering school!
